Eric McKay
January 26, 2021
MY name is Erik McKay, and I graduated from WCBC in 2008 and 2009 with my Bachelors and Masters Degrees. I am very thankful for the opportunities I had at WCBC. Upon completing my Masters, I had not found a ministry position or so I had thought. I started working for a local security company for the next year, and I got as plugged in as I possibly could at my home church in Minnesota. It was my dream to eventually be a youth pastor. The position opened up shortly after I was home from college. The only problem I was having was that I was not married. This seemed to be the theme of why I was not able to get a youth position anywhere and rightfully so. A year later, my pastor hired me part time to run our Master Club program. A couple months later, I was hired full-time to be our bus director. I am so thankful for the opportunity that I had to run our bus ministry for the next 5 years. The Lord really worked. Fast forward to September of 2013. I was just coming back from a missions trip to South Korea and the Philippines. At this point, I also was coaching soccer at our Christian school. Our soccer team had a tournament in Wisconsin, and I was really excited to go and help coach our team. The only problem was that my pastor told me that it was not a good idea for me to go. I was honestly a little bummed. However, the Lord was at work. Earlier that summer I was a camp evangelist for a camp in Minnesota, and I met some very awesome people there. The same time I was supposed to be coaching my team in a different state, one of the friends I met at camp had a college soccer game locally. I decided to attend this game with one of my bus kids. It turned out to be the best day of my life. I met the most beautiful girl in the world that day, my WIFE, Kari! In September of 2014, we were engaged. We then got married June 12, 2015. The Lord took something I thought was a bad thing and turned it into something wonderful. God wasn’t done yet. My heart was always to be a youth pastor. The Lord opened a door in August of 2015 for me to become the full time youth pastor at First Baptist Church in Rosemount. The Lord really has been working in our
youth group. Our youth group has grown substantially, and in the fall I have been granted the opportunity to start a ministry in our local public schools. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. If there is one thing that you can take from it, it is that God is faithful, and
all you have to do is be patient and trust Him.
